The implementation of the 2002 regulatory framework for electronic communications represented a milestone for European telecommunications regulation. Noteworthy innovations in the regulatory framework include (1) the use of objective economic criteria to determine whether regulatory remedies are appropriate, and (2) an over-arching concept of technological neutrality. After an extensive and thorough review process that took account of experiences gained and expected market and technological developments, the European Commission issued their proposed modifications in November 2007.

WIK is organising a conference on April 24 and 25, 2008 in Bonn to reflect on this “Review of the European Framework for Electronic Communications”. The goal of the conference is to discuss and analyze the Commission’s proposals.

The conference will provide insights into the experiences, expectations and perspectives of National Regulatory Authorities, members of the European parliament, other government officials, market players and independent regulatory experts. Their many different viewpoints will be communicated through presentations and panel discussions. Moreover, the conference will provide opportunities to network with high-ranking industry experts and to discuss the most challenging issues.
