US PRC publishes report on Universal Postal Service and the Postal Monopoly

The US Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) transmitted its report on Universal Postal Service and the Postal Monopoly to the President and Congress on 19 December 2008 .

The PRC’s report was informed by an extensive study prepared by a group of consultants led George Mason University (GMU). WIK-Consult contributed to this study. The report is available for download

WIK 11th Königswinter Postal Seminar
“Competition in Postal Services: A Return to Senders?”

The 11th WIK Königswinter Postal Seminar was held from 24 to 26 November 2008 at Hirschburg castle in Königswinter (near Bonn ). The seminar featured 17 presentations related to recent postal market trends, strategic challenges for postal operators and regulators. An issue of particular interest at this seminar was the effect that emerging competition in the postal sector has had on postal customers. Seminar participants included representatives of postal regulators and operators, ministries, business associations, and academics. Their constructive and passionate discussions helped us make the seminar a success.

Study on the telecommunications market in Hessen

WIK-Consult has just finished a survey of telecommunications provider on behalf of the Hessian ministry of economics. The study entitled “Telekommunikationsanbieter in Hessen 2008“ (in German) can be downloaded for free at the website of the iniative Hessen-IT.

New study on “Industrial and societal Impacts of Trusted Computing based technical platforms”

In August 2007 the Federal Ministry of Economy and Technology has issued a study carried out by WIK-Consult to analyse the recent status of “Trusted Computing” and its impacts on industry and society. The study provides evidence of the most recent developments of Trusted Computing based on expert interviews and an international comparison of the US and China. New Study "The Impact of Broadband and Growth and Productivity"

A new study from MICUS and WIK-Consult on behalf of the European Commission, DG Information Society and Media, collects evidence of the economic impact of broadband internet on labour productivity, employment level and growth. The investigation focuses on the improvement of business processes through the use of online technologies in large companies and in SMEs. In the best case scenario, broadband development could yield the creation of more than 2,000,000 jobs in Europe until 2015.
The study was published in September 2008 and is available for download.

 

The study on ‘Economics of next generation access’ has been conducted for ECTA (European Competitive Telecommunications Association)

On 1 October 2008 , WIK-Consult GmbH conducted a final workshop in Brussels in connection with our project for the European Commission: Optimising the Use of the Radio Spectrum by the Public Sector in the European Union.
