Profile Dr. Andrea Schweinsberg

Head of the Department "Energy Markets and Energy Regulation"

Dr. Andrea Schweinsberg is head of the department „Energy Markets and Energy Regulation" since January 2011. Before she worked as a senior economist at the Monopolies Commission, an independent advisory board of the German Government concerning competition policy and regulation. She had the lead management in the field of energy industry, especially in the gas sector. She disposed the biennial special reports in accordance with § 62 EnWG and worked on current topics of competition policy.

Before joining the Monopolies Commission Andrea Schweinsberg worked at an economic consulting firm. Her responsibilities were broad. In particular she carried out economic analysis in antitrust law and sector specific regulation.

She studied economics at the University of Muenster and received her doctorate there with an institutional economic thesis about global business cooperation, which was part of a research project which was funded by the Volkswagen Foundation. During her doctoral studies she worked as a research and teaching assistant at the Centre of Applied Economic Research at the University of Muenster.
