WIK Investment Workshop 2017

WIK is organising an interactive workshop on 7 March 2017 in Brussels which will provide an in-depth discussion on regulatory tools to boost Gigabit broadband. The aim of the event is to provide an independent forum to engage in the ongoing debate on the proposed Electronic Communications Code, and to offer fresh practical insights to NRAs and telecom operators on strategies to boost very high capacity broadband, in the context of ongoing market reviews.

The event will be introduced with presentations from Anthony Whelan, Director of Electronic Communications at DG Connect, European Commission, and Pilar del Castillo MEP, the rapporteur for the Electronic Communications Code for the European Parliament. It will thereafter be organised in structured sessions at which we will discuss the practical application, advantages and limitations of

(i) duct and pole access;

(ii) co-investment and commercial offers for VHC broadband; and

(iii) wholesale only offers and other forms of separation.

After an interactive debate on implications for the proposed Electronic Communications Code we will draw together the results of the deliberations to provide suggestions for the market review process and the ongoing reform of the electronic communications framework. Each session has been designed to present insights from regulators and industry experts with moderation from independent experts at WIK.
