BMWi appoints new CEO of WIK

The Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWi) in his capacity as shareholder of the Scientific Institute for Infrastructure and Communication Services (WIK) has appointed Dr Cara Schwarz-Schilling as the new managing director of WIK.

Dr Schwarz-Schilling worked for the Federal Network Agency for many years, most recently as Chairwoman of the Ruling Chamber 11 - National Dispute Settlement Body of the DigiNetzGesetz. She is very familiar with all current issues of regulation, broadband expansion and the internet. She has been active in the relevant German and European committees of the regulatory authorities and has also shaped the international debate on digitization. Dr Cara Schwarz-Schilling will take over the management of WIK on January 1, 2020 from Dr Iris Henseler-Unger, who successfully determined the goals of WIK for five years.

"WIK is looking forward to the new managing director", said Dr Henseler-Unger. "With Dr Schwarz-Schilling, WIK will be excellently equipped for the challenges of the future. It will thus maintain its position as one of the leading research and consulting institutions in the field of regulated network industries in Europe and will continue to stand out through innovative contributions to national and European broadband and regulatory policy as well as to digitization".
