Head of Department "Postal Services and Logistics"
Antonia Niederprüm studied Economics with a focus on international economic development, industrial economics and econometrics at the University of Essen. After her studies, she continued working empirically and investigated, among other things, the ownership structure of companies and how this impacts their success. At the end of 1999 she joined WIK and has since then, in her role as a regulatory expert, demonstrated her expertise on a wide ride of issues in the postal sector in numerous national and international projects, at conferences and in many publications.
From early on, she has closely accompanied the gradual liberalisation of the European postal markets and has worked on all topics related to postal market regulation, the regulation of market-dominant companies and universal postal services. In addition, she has conducted several benchmark studies on regulatory topics, business strategies and operational efficiency of postal operators. She has managed national and international empirical studies on the demand behaviour in letter and e-commerce markets, the latter in the context of cross-border delivery services. Moreover, she has been involved in various studies on the impact of digitisation and e commerce on national as well as international delivery markets of letters and merchandise consignments including implications on regulation and economic policy.
Her expertise and advice on major regulatory developments have been sought after at national and European level. Among other things, she has conducted several pertinent studies on behalf of the European Commission and supported national as well as other European and non-European regulatory authorities and ministries with her expertise in postal market regulation.
Since July 2020, Antonia has been responsible for the management of the Postal Services and Logistics Division at WIK as the Head of Department, following her role as Deputy Head of Department in the same division since 2015.
