Measuring the Internet of Things

WIK has supported an OECD report that examines the current state of adoption and use of the Internet of Things (IoT) in OECD countries among businesses and households.

IoT use in the corporate sector is part of the overall digital transformation process of companies and remains at an early stage: according to available statistics, around 18 % of all EU companies are able to exploit the potential of connected machines and devices. In a European comparison, Germany is one of the most advanced countries in terms of IoT use by companies.

Based on nine case studies, WIK is investigating the use of Industrial IoT (IIoT) in German companies of different sizes. A broad spectrum of use cases from the demand and supply side of IIoT is presented and the potentials, challenges, and advantages of IIoT are highlighted.
