Professional Mobile Radio (PMR) services have been experienced a period of increasing importance during the last years – nearly without an adequate notice by the general public. Meanwhile, the economical and societal need of processes security and protection of life is continuously increasing. With their failsafe communications systems PMR services provide for uninterrupted communications under all conceivable conditions. They guarantee the maximum level of reliability for critical applications at companies and authorities, safeguard the smooth flow and efficiency of operational procedures, and result in optimal business performance. PMR contributes actively to prevent failures and reduce consequential damages in the event of force majeure and disaster scenarios. Therefore PMR systems are perfectly suited to meet the challenges of the future with their digital technologies TETRA, TEDS, TETRAPOL and DMR. PMR systems are tailored to the specific needs of professional users, ensuring that operational processes are fully optimised and efficiencies achieved.
However, it appears that decision-makers in industrial enterprises, utility-companies and public businesses are still widely unaware of the full potential of PMR. The contribution of PMR to reliable mobile communication services is still much below its possibilities. With regard to this, WIK-Consult has conducted a study concerning possibilities and operational areas of the Professional Mobile Radio services. The emphasis is on the profits for enterprises and the overall economy. The study was mandated by the German association for Professional Mobile Radio services PMeV.
