Quantitative impact of variable electricity tariffs on households’ electricity cost

The Federation of German Consumer Organisations – vzbv– assigned WIK to a study on the monetary consequences of variable electricity tariffs for households. The study contributes importantly to the discussion on the German energy transition.

The study analyses different variable tariffs for different household scales and assumed different price sensitivities of household customers. The calculations were run for the years 2014, 2015, 2020 and 2025. It becomes apparent that only customers with storage heating and heat pumps will be likely to profit from different variable tariffs.

The study (in German language) was presented to a broad expert audience on 25 November, 2015 and published by the Federation of German Consumer Organisations on its website.
