WIK study on cost orientation of letter prices in Belgium

In March 2017, Belgian regulator BIPT had rejected the price increases bpost had proposed for 2017. The decision was based on a study by WIK on cost orientation of letter prices in Belgium. BIPT has published its decision and the WIK report in May 2017.

In 2016, WIK has prepared a study on cost orientation for Belgian regulator BIPT to support a price regulation procedure. The study first develops a transparent methodology to verify whether bpost’s prices are cost-oriented, and thus implement relevant legal provisions in Belgium. WIK then supported BIPT in carrying out a detailed review of bpost’s costs and proposed prices. The BIPT case and WIK’s study, relate to public tariffs for letters and parcels offered to consumers and small business users. In March 2017, BIPT has rejected the price increase bpost had proposed for 2017.

BIPT has published its decision and the WIK report (appended to the decision) in May 2017, in French and Dutch.
