Die IKT-Branche in Hessen

Study published: Die IKT-Branche in Hessen

The study measures and analyses the ICT sector in Hesse. It relates to two precursor studies as it investigates the sector from today's perspective, responding to current needs. In particular, the present study takes into account the increasing convergence of IT and telecommunications sectors and related markets. It also addresses major ICT application areas such as industrial production or cloud computing.

The study highlights that Hesse is a leading ICT location in Germany and Europe and that it will even strengthen its leading position in the years to come. The ICT sector represents a key economic factor in Hesse. As the business survey conducted and evaluated by WIK-Consult shows, the ICT sector in Hesse employs a total of about 122,000 people working in around 10,000 companies. Together, these companies generate a turnover of nearly 40 billion euros. No other technology industry in Hesse employs more people and achieves higher revenues.

Therefore the ICT sector is by far the most important technology sector in Hesse and an economic factor of central importance for the state. More than one in seven jobs of the German ICT sector belongs to a Hessian company, and every eight ICT euro in Germany is generated in Hesse.
